January 23, 2012

January 23rd, Monday – 1st Rotation, pages 148-154, Federalist versus Democrat-Republicans. Taking notes based on their reading of how they view different issues: National Bank, Foreign relations, human nature, ideal economy,best form of government.

Quiz on Tuesday based on notes in class. Open notes quiz. Must have own sheet to take quiz.

January 24th, Tuesday – 2nd Rotation – Quiz in class based on notes. Record grades for 2nd card marking. go over notes/worksheet from last Friday. record on 2nd card marking.

Please make sure your Photostory can be seen by me for grades.

January 25th/26th – 3rd Rotation – Students watched the movie “Separate but Equal”, which talked about court case in South Carolina in the 1950′s. It was landmark decision to end segregation in the South. We watched the 1st 34 minutes, then last 30 minutes with information of the verdict.

I have expressed that Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren wanted to make this 9-0 decisions so there would not be any more issues in regards to segregation. They got to see how court decisions are based and persuasion of other judges.

Want to see a great movie, take the time to check this out! BTW- Sidney Poitier plays Thurgood Marshall. Wealso discussed who he was and accomplishments.

January 16-20th

January 19, 2012

January 16, Monday – No school, MLK Day. In class last Friday, we watched 4 clips of various speeches, I have a Dream, last Speech given and reporting of his death. Students were moved in class. Understanding what he meant to USA and our great country. Discussed the 1st amendment.

Reminder – test – on Tuesday, extra day to study.

January 17th, Tuesday(Rotation 1) - Exam – Revolutionary War-Constitution, 46 questions, moodle exam, all multiple choice. When they complete their exam and submit, grade will be given. Everything will be posted on Powerschool – tonight, double the points – 92 points in all.

January 18 & 19, Wednesday/Thursday(Rotation 2), I will be out in the morning only for Ignite-training. Back at 11:40 A.M. Wednesday only. Photostory are due today – Rotation 2, and post to the wiki. Please make sure you have voices in Photostory. When posted, start on homework due Friday – hard copy.

1st 5 Presidents: George Washington,John Adams,Thomas Jefferson,James Madison and James Monroe. Questions that needs to be answered: State where they were from,Political Party,who their V.P was, and same party or not,College they attended,Cabinet position the held before they became President and How long did they serve as President. Once again, due Friday)

January 20th, Friday – Rotation 3 – Collect homework assignment. Record on Powerschool. Discuss answers and create Venn Diagram of comparison. Discuss Washington’s terms of office and what he said when he left office. Avoid Political parties. This will be useful information in next project.

Starting next week, we will be reading to 3rd/4th graders – Photostory – Government. goto BPS wiki, Braisted11 – under BCS, left hand column, Government – click on, check out students Photostories.

January 9 – Monday – 1st Rotation – Students discussed – Bill of Rights – Amendments – with review of 1st 4 amendments. We open book to page 139 – to discuss Amendment #5, Double jeopardy, Plead 5th, miranda Warning, completed assignment – which Amendment affect them – using Amendments – 11-27. post to Wiki. Given 5 that were must to know for exam, next Tuesday, January 17th,2012. Must know,13,14,15,19 and 26, beside the Bill of Rights – 10 Amendments, there are 27 amendments in the Constitution. Overall, Test covers – Revolutionary War-Constitution.

Tuesday, January 10th – Rotation 2 – Distributed review sheets in class – 57 questions, yes, 57 questions. Revolutinary War-Constitution. Test on January 17th, 2012 – Next Tuesday. Multiple Choice. Test comes from Reviw sheets. Not on Review Sheets, question will ne be asked. Had whole class perion to work on with partners. I-pod were allowed too. Each day we will review for test in class over above other assignments.

Wednesday/Thursday – Rotation 3 – January 11/12 – Go over review sheets in class, Play little jeopardy, then continue with photostory. These are due next Wednesday/Thursday – January 18 & 19. Happy New Years!

January 3rd, 2012 – Tuesday – Welcome back: Rotation 1 – Returned papers – Virginia/New Jersey Plan – 20 pts. Also returned – Quiz – Chapters 4-12, of My Brother Sam is Dead – 20 Pts. Brief Discussion about what everyone did and etc. Today – Worksheets – 38 & 39 and 40 & 41 – Judicial Branch information. When completed, Check and record on Powerschool – 21 pts.

January 4th/5th, Wednesday/Thursday – Rotation 2 – Students will continue theri project – Photo Story abour Government. Directions are on the wiki – Braisted11, take a look for yourself.

January 6th – Friday – Rotation 3 – Bill of Rights – 1st 10 Amendments, We will discuss in class. Test coming next Friday – Janaury 13 – Revolutionary War – Constitution. Review sheets given on Monday for students to complete and study. Reminder, not on Review sheet, will not be asked.

Rotation 1 – Monday – Check Executive Branch – Worksheets. Present next Group project – assigning of leaders and teammates. Topic – Government – Creating a Story Book that relates to subject and content of what they have learned so far for Government.

Groups will receive copies of what I expect and required of them to complete project. After presentations, they will begin to assemble and discuss their roles.

Rotation 2 – Tuesday – Lab 501 – begin working on their storybook and create checklist of who is responsible for various topics. Class period to work on. Need to show progress. Leaders need to provide Mr. B with job descriptions and responsibilities.

Rotation 3 – Wednesday/Thursday – Miracle at Moreaux – Movie that is educational,informative and Historical that ties W.W. II with Holiday celebrations. Time to work on project if time permits.

Rotation 4 – Friday – Review of Legislative and Executive Branch with jeopardy game plus other Government issues.

Rotation 1 – Monday – Homework assignment – Record and Discuss( 10 points possible) - 6 goals of the Preamble, define what they meant in our language.

Packet – Legislative Branch – 2 houses,Age Requirements, Duties,How many in Both Houses. Homework – information below of what I am looking for: Relating to House of Representatives and Senate,plus more.

I will not be here on Wednesday, December 7th - meeting in Lansing, we will watch video on Tuesday – December 6th that relates to December 7th, 1941 – Tora,Tora,Tora – clips from video

Homework Questions: 1) Gov. of Michigan, 2) Lt. Rotation 2 – Tuesday – Record and Discuss homework assignment – 15 points, need for test in January. We will be watching clips of Tora,Tora,Tora – in regards to December 7th,1941.  I know we are watching the video on December 6th, but I will not be here on December 7th.  Keeping with traditions, and History, this film will be shown in all class periods.

Rotation 3 – Wednesday – Finish Legislative Branch Packet, when completed, start on Executive Branch – worksheets

Rotation 4 -(Thursday) Grade/check Legislative Branch worksheets and quick review of this Branch. These stuff will be on test in January. Finish Executive Branch.

Rotation 5 -(Friday) Mrs. Truesdell – Media Specialist at BCS will be doing an Activity with students that relates to Bill of Rights. We will be team-teaching this lesson. Looking forward to this activity.

1st Rotation – Monday – Discussion/Review of the Virginia and New Jersey Plans – Virginia Plan – favors the Large States and New Jersey Plans favors the Small States. Both had other ideas too.

Students are to write persuasive paper expressing their support for Virginia or New Jersey Plan. Typed,Double Space and turned in on Tuesday, November 29th. Remember, stay on topic and support your views with facts

2nd Rotation – Tuesday(November 29th), Turn Persuasive paper in at start of class period. Game – Mystery Word – COMPROMISE. Discuss the GREAT COMPROMISE along with some Government information. 3 Branches of Government plus more. Duties of 3 branches and roles they play.

3rd Rotation – Wed/Thurs – I was out on Wednesday morning – half day – Ignite training. Focus on Compromise, relating to Constitution. Southern and Northern Views in regards to Slaves, three-fifth compromise,Fugitive slave clause,Chief executive and issues – remember Compromise, Electoral College, why some did not sign constitution, Federalist and Anti-Federalist views.

Have you taken an U.S. Citizenship Test lately? Students took several in class today, to see how much they know. We all have some work to do. Big test in January, stay tune for more information.

4th Rotation – Friday – Discussion with notes and worksheet that I provided. Questions 1-10, questions come from Wednesday/Thursday assignment in class. Question #11 – deals with Preamble – will be homework, Please take a look at it. In their own words, define the 6 goals that Founding Father had when they created the Constitution. FYI: To form a more perfect union,Establish justice,Ensure domestic tranquility,provide for the common defense,promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

This part will be homework, can be found on google and in their textbooks.

Rotation 1( Monday) - Students taking notes for discussion on Tuesday. pages 73-80 – 1st Continetal Congress-Battle of Bunker Hill – BTW – I was out sick

Rotation 2(Tuesday) – Correct Quiz from Friday. Grade posted to Powerschool – 20 points possible. Students workd on Worksheet – titled how well did you take notes. explained everything up to Bunker Hill. trivia question; Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on _______________ Hill.

Rotation 3 (Wed/Thursday) – Start of new project. Goto BPS wikis – Braisted11, and check out My Brother Sam Is Dead – directions. project has to do with identifying conflicts.

Students are required to read up to page 60, chapter 4 by Friday afternoon. Along with reading, they must produce 6 questions from chapters 1-3, due Friday. These questions will be used to create Quiz on Tuesday – covering Chapters 1-3 only. questions are to be turned in to me.

Rotation 4 (Friday) – students are to have read up to page 60, chapter 4, but questions – 2 from each chapter – 1-3, due at end of class period.

We have purchased – 50 new books, plus Mr. B has another 50 more for students to use. If students need to borrow a book, they will sign it out at end of day only and bring it back the next morning before school starts. Just know, if they forget book, they will be calling you. An agreement that they agreed to.

Looking forward to this project as we are tying in both subjects – Language Art and Social Studies to make this successful. However, they will not be doing this project in Language Art classes. This project is being done in Social Studies only.
